Pomme Frite
Dining in an intimate and cozy bistro atmosphere. |
Have you ever spoken with someone who has just returned from a fabulous European vacation? Isn’t the first story always about the romantic little bistro they found? How great the food was and how friendly the staff was? Well, diners who have experienced Pomme Frite can tell the same stories…sans the jetlag! Pomme Frite opened downtown Palm Springs in 1999 as a small bistro. Three years ago, Owner-Entrepreneur Jean-Claude Constant, saw the opportunity to expand his dining patio, a favorite spot for diners to share the excitement of sidewalk and street side traffic along the legendary Palm Canyon Drive. Besides the hand-written notepad featuring the nightly creations, this authentic French bistro offers a wide variety of dishes providing a taste of France and Belgium. The Oven-Baked French Onion soup with “Beaucoup” Gruyère cheese is a great starter among more than half a dozen appetizers, like the Roasted Beets and Goat Cheese Napoleon with roasted bell pepper vinaigrette. Steak lovers may choose the 8-ounce Baseball-cut Prime Sirloin, New York Steak or Filet Mignon Medallions with their choice of brandy-green peppercorn sauce, bordelaise, or blue cheese cream sauce. The signature dish, Flemish-Style Carbonnade of Beef, long simmered in Belgium beer and served with Pommes Frites, remains the favorite of the food aficionados. Those seeking the catch of the day may opt for salmon, rainbow trout, ahi tuna, fillets of sole, or Mixed Grill of Tiger Shrimp and Sea Scallops, but the specialty of the house remains the Steamed Prince Edward Island Black Mussels prepared to diners’ choice, marinière, provençale, saffron, lemon grass broth or any other available flavor. Regular customers choose the same nights to come for their favorite dishes. Every day of the week features a different house specialty, such as Thursday’s Beef Stroganoff and Saturday’s Rack of Lamb. Pomme Frite offers seasonal three-course Prix Fixe menus and host Wine Dinners on the last Wednesday of the month. Diners may whet their palate from a variety of two dozen Belgium beers or enjoy French and California wines by the glass, half-bottle, or bottle. Pomme Frite is open six nights a week from 4:30 to10:30 p.m., closed Tuesdays. On the weekends and holidays from noon to 3 p.m. Pomme Frite serves a great brunch of soups, salads, pastas, and sandwiches. Visit the Pomme Frite web site for the full menu, wine list, and special promotions. |
