Come for the Bar-B-Que, Stay for the BeerBy Ellen Paris Chief Operating Officer and Executive Chef Arthur Vasquez and his team, General Manager Jason St. John, and Assistant Manager Joshua Levish are passionate about crafted ales and lagers and raising awareness that these are definitely a “white collar” beverage to be enjoyed the same as fine wines with meats such as beef and pork. “It is our mission that Coachella Valley beer enthusiasts experience unique ales and lagers firsthand. Our passion and commitment to make the best crafted ales and lagers is all about putting Babe’s Brewhouse on the map as the Coachella Valley’s first choice for award-winning microbrews,” says Vasquez, who assisted in opening Babe’s with founder, the late Don Callender, who also started the popular restaurant chain Marie Callender’s. Babe’s Bar-B-Que & Brewhouse won big at the Los Angeles International Commercial Beer Competition in June. Babe’s took home the Gold Medal for its flagship Honey Blond Ale and Blackfin Lager. The 29 Palms Pale Ale received a Silver Medal. This was the second time that Babe’s has taken Gold for its Blackfin Lager, besting Samuel Adams, which took a bronze medal in both instances for its black lager. Babe’s annual winter seasonal will be its 10th Anniversary Ale. The Brewhouse is using American oak in the fermentation process that is maturing with cherry and cinnamon bourbon. “The characteristics of the oak and the bourbon add complexity and help to create a sophisticated winter seasonal,” Vasquez says. Prominent flavors range from cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and orange peel to cherries, blackberries, and blueberries. “Embrace all the local treasures of our Coachella Valley such as our Brewhouse,” Vasquez recommends. “Babe’s offers you a white collar experience of something that is commonly and falsely perceived to be a working class, blue collar beverage!
