Locals And Visitors Love TRIO Year-Round

By Ellen Paris

TRIO, “Where Palm Springs Eats And Drinks,” located in an historic midcentury building in Palm Springs sophisticated Uptown Design District, is lively and up beat all year-round. Trio’s local regulars love its varied menu combining traditional Midwest comfort food with a California contemporary edge, like Yankee pot roast, calamari with Thai dipping sauce, braised lamb shank, and roasted baby beet salad. Trio’s décor matches the mood — vibrant splashes of color, creative lighting, and an amazing art collection.

Since opening in 2009, Trio has generated recognition as one of Palm Springs top restaurants and hot spots by numerous lifestyle and travel publications and websites, including one of Open Tables Top 100 Hot Spots in the U.S. The restaurant, also listed as Trip Advisor’s top 10 percent of restaurants worldwide, is a Zagat-rated restaurant, and local favorite.

“The key to our popularity is that our food is consistent, we are priced right, servers our friendly and knowledgeable, and there’s a warming energy in the room,” says Tony Marchese, co-owner of Trio with Mark Van Lanaan, executive chef. “We believe in giving back to our community. We have donated more than $100,000 dollars to local charities such as AIDS Assistance Program, Dine Out for Life for the Desert AIDS Project, Palm Springs Animal Shelter, and Art Institute of Palm Springs High School.”

Trio draws a diverse crowd all day long. The 140-seat eatery is often filled with “ladies that lunch” country club set who feel that Trio is worth the drive from other downvalley cities. Evenings draw groups of all ages. Trio hosts corporate events, wedding rehearsal dinners, and bachelor and bachelorette parties.

“It’s one big party at Trio, a little loud, but everyone enjoys themselves,” said Marchese. “It’s a place to come in and feel at home, and relax and enjoy.”

Trio offers a three-course $19 prix fixe menu 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and happy hour with $3 well, $5 call, $8 premium, and $5 bar bites at the Bar and Patio. Lunch begins weekdays at 11 a.m., brunch Saturday and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with unlimited champagne and bloody Mary’s specials.
