Palm Springs' midcentury era of swinging supper clubs, big cocktails, hip music, and a carefree spirit has been reinvented at the newly renovated Purple Room at Club Trinidad. Savvy restaurateurs Tony Marchese and Mark Van Laanen, owners of the popular Trio Restaurant, have brought back the classy ’60s style at the Purple Room with outstanding American food, great libations, and top entertainment.
“Cats like Frank and Dino hung with their pals to eat, drink, and play here,” says Marchese. “The Purple Room reopens with its pedigree legacy in mind. We are one of two original Rat Pack hangouts left in the desert today.”
The duo completely renovated the club, enlarging the stage to three times its original size with state-of-the-art sound equipment and sultry purple curtains that backdrop the Purple Room logo. On either side are huge photos of Frank Sinatra with Elvis Presley, and Dean Martin.
With a more intimate vibe than its “big brother” Trio, the supper club offers prime seating near the stage under a vintage sparkle ceiling and crystal chandelier. A rectangular white bar with mirrored drop ceiling centers the room, surrounded by plum leather bar stools and hightop tables. The back of the room even has fabulous stage views from raised plum-colored semicircular banquettes.
Chef Van Laanen’s versatile menu ranges from salads small plates for sharing to more than a dozen “mains” with twists on Southern classics sprinkled in, such as blackened Creole catfish, shrimp and goat cheese grits, and fried green tomato salad.
Quality live entertainment six nights a week includes a mix of vintage blues, rock, pop, soul, and jazz with local artists and wildly entertaining nightclub acts like The Judy Show, and The Gand Band featuring Tony Grandberry.
Open 3 p.m. to midnight Tuesday through Sunday, and until 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday with a late-night menu until 11 p.m. Happy hour is from 3 to 7 p.m. daily in the bar with $3 well and half-price bar bites.
