The Art of Recycling
USE THIS PAGE
Students at Nellie N. Coffman Middle School in Cathedral City turned pages from donated Palm Springs Life and Desert Homes magazines into recycled fashion statements. “Because the paper … is of such high quality, the students’ beads for their holiday gifts have turned out to be just as I’d hoped: very durable and color rich,” writes their art teacher, Diane McIntosh. “What a fun way to be green.” We couldn’t agree more
KEYS TO HER HEART
After 30 years of parking the cars of L.A.’s A-list, Maureen Sullivan has expanded The Valettes to the desert. Operating primarily with women valets in pink tuxedo or polo shirts, The Valettes offers another special touch: presenting roses to guests as they await their cars. Sullivan’s first job in Palm Desert, where she now resides, was for a 90th birthday party at Villa Portofino. This month, The Valettes will hand out roses and park cars at Palm Springs Air Museum’s annual gala (Feb. 12). www.thevalettes.com
SOMMELIERS FOR HIRE
Based in Los Angeles, Classico Group sommelier agency also serves the Coachella Valley, helping party hosts select wines to complement their dinner menu. According to Classico owner Marko Paavolaineen, his typical client is over 50 years old and wants sommelier service at a private dinner party ranging from eight to 80 guests. www.classicogroup.com.
