A Place for Friends

A Place for Friends

Kevin Corcoran’s home is designed for friends. They’re the reason he moved to Palm Springs. They’re the ones who, with air mattresses in tow, stayed with him to help gut his newly purchased (but severely outdated) home. And they’re the ones who ushered in his 50th birthday at the unveiling of Corcoran’s renovated home in Andreas Hills.

And what a party it was. The 125 friends and family in attendance took full advantage of the home’s 6,500 square feet. With Steve Oratowski of Synergy Design at the helm, the home received all the upgrades befitting a desert home. While Oratowski kept the original post-and-beam ceilings, he added a floating ceiling in the living room and adjacent dining room to address issues of lighting and wiring. Three of Corcoran’s friends are expert chefs and helped design the kitchen, which features GE Monogram appliances and a granite-topped breakfast bar for four. The adjoining bar and great room are natural gathering spaces for guests. The two guest bedrooms are built for privacy, Corcoran says, but are still accessible to the public spaces. A one-bedroom casita also sits on the property. The master suite is adorned with lush handmade furniture from Oratowski’s new line. A double vanity in the master bath leads to what Oratowski calls “the car wash,” a marble-and-glass shower with seven showerheads, rain bars, and a handheld shower. The shower opens to a walled-in outdoor shower.

The grandeur of the outdoor space matches that of the indoors. Oratowski’s team moved the tennis court by 15 feet and created a fire pit. Tiki torches align against the back wall beyond the whirlpool and pool, which has a Buddha waterfall feature. An outdoor kitchen and grill complete the entertainment hub that is Corcoran’s home.

“I was just so proud of how the house turned out,” Corcoran says. “It went from the dated ’70s to something much more contemporary and updated. It’s a place that is just comfortable, where every room is a room you want to be in. … My house is my vehicle for bringing people together.”
