Indian Ridge Country Club, Palm Desert, renovated in 2004
When you enter this home at Indian Ridge Country Club, you enter a place of Old World luxury. Interior designer Louise Neyer renovated the entire house for owners Michael and Tami Kahn. Featuring custom, handmade upholstery, furniture, and draperies, each room exudes sophistication. Custom crown moldings — all distressed with copper nail heads — surround the entire home. Natural woven bamboo shades grace every window. All walls and ceilings have a five-step faux-glazed finish.
The varying palettes of browns, coppers, and sages flow among the rooms, representing the picturesque mountain view from the home. In the living room, a carved-stone fireplace is an intricately designed focal point. A hand-stamped copper table and hand-painted, distressed chairs nestle in the corner of the kitchen, while handmade raffia and animal hides cover the bar stools at the breakfast bar. The formal dining room makes an opulent statement with a mirrored patina on the table and hand-painted velvet chairs with nail inlays. Handmade papers accentuate the walls in the family room, powder room, and master suite.
Copper glaze finishes appear throughout the master suite; the fireplace and cabinetry feature antique copper inlays. Drapes made of cut velvet burnout and charmeuse silk envelop the room in a warm, rich elegance. A granite-surround Jacuzzi tub and double vanities offer a spa-like experience in the master bath.
Neyer reclaimed and repainted an antique bed, dresser, and night tables in the daughter’s bedroom. Silk bedding with velvet rosettes drapes the bed. The rosette theme is pulled into the girl’s bathroom as well. Quilted-leather pillows, a woven-leather mirror, and an entertainment center and table with coconut inlays accent the sumptuous guest casita.
