ABOUT THE COVER: American Airlines 707 Astrojet, photographed in flight against the desert sunset by Robert M. Takis, American's senior photographer, now makes a daily run from Chicago to Phoenix, Palm Springs and Los Angeles. It is the first direct-flight service from the eastern United States to Palm Springs. The flight was inaugurated December 12. (See story, page 16.)
