Brett Stanley, general manager of the Purple Palm at Colony Palms Hotel in Palm Springs, notes that what the margarita is to Mexico, the Paloma is to South America — and he is bringing it local.

“Refreshingly tart and sweet at the same time, this beautiful and delicious drink makes the ideal poolside punch,” he says.

So that you can have it on hand for your summer poolside celebrations, we cajoled Stanley into sharing his recipe.

Make it at home:

  • 4 cups silver tequila or mescal

  • 1 cup fresh-squeezed lime juice

  • 1 cup fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice

  • 2 liters grapefruit soda

Combine tequila and juices in a large bowl, and then add ice. Slowly stir in grapefruit soda. Pour into glass, over ice or not, and garnish with a thinly sliced grapefruit wheel and mint sprigs.
