Flirty, tiered skirts by Victor Tung were a veritable burst of color and energy on the runway on Sunday, day three of Fashion Week El Paseo in Palm Desert.

The skirts were strong and colorfulf in silk, taffeta, and braids worn with different styles of jackets, blouses, and knits in contrasting patterns and prints

Tung’s talent for collage surfaced in his dresses made with hand-painted fabrics and appliqués. He seeks out the best materials, customizes each piece, and creates fashion that speaks to the soul — the kind that engages the audience like a fascinating work of art.

To cleanse the palate for the next round of artistic creations, she sent a surprisingly graphic black and white dresses, skirts and shorts down the runway.

His final grouping was an explosion of hand-painted floral motifs on soft backgrounds. The continuous flow of hand-painted concepts included profiles and graffiti in his distinctive take on eveningwear.

Tung’s patterns ran an artistic parallel to the mass-produced floral prints of the season.

Tung, who displays more than 200 pieces in his San Francisco store, started his career making garments one piece at a time in his garage. An artist, he loved beautiful things or things with character — especially dresses. He eventually created his own line. His work is eco-friendly, and he only uses natural dyes.

“My goal is to create fashion that speaks to your soul and helps express yourself to the world,” Tung says.

Fashion Week El Paseo continues this evening with a runway show featuring top design graduates from FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.
