ABOUT THE COVER: Coronado Bridge, a curving structural ribbon of blue, spans the bay between the new highrise of San Diego and the burgeoning highrise of Coronado. The bridge, a modern-day engineering feat, has displaced the ferry boats that in earlier days plied their way between the then-sleepy coastal "sailor town" and the "tent city" of Coronado.
