For $2.5 million, you could buy a chunk of mountainside perched over the private O’Donnell Golf Club. Thomas O’Donnell, who built the course in the late 1920s, apparently had fashioned living with such a view himself. A rock retaining wall, visible from the desert floor, marks the site of a level pad that was never built upon.
Andy Linsky, Kelli Ross, and Sven Vennen of Windermere Real Estate in Palm Springs represent the sellers, Brent Harris and Beth Harris, who also are selling the Kaufmann House.
In addition to the 30.82 acres (zoned for one single-family residence) and half-mile private drive to the building pad, buyers of The Promontory get a 12-foot-square arched, crypt-like room hidden within the mountain behind a masonry seal — perhaps ideal for a wine cellar.
