Desert Medical Imaging (DMI) offers the most comprehensive high-tech imaging services in the desert, with a caliber of patient-centered care that is unsurpassed. What distinguishes DMI is the fact that it is a subspecialty outpatient imaging center that is physician owned and operated, accredited by the American College of Radiology. What that means for patients is that your imaging results will always be read by a team of fellowship-trained specialists, assuring you of the most accurate diagnoses. Subspecialties include orthopedic imaging, neuroradiology, oncology imaging, cardiac imaging, body CT and ultrasound, and interventional radiology.
DMI provides services in Indian Wells, Indio, Palm Springs, and Yucca Valley, and its comprehensive menu of services includes high field and open magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), multidetector computed tomography (CT) imaging, ultrasound, and positron emission tomography (PET/CT) imaging.
DMI’s emphasis on education and innovation has made it a worldwide leader in new imaging technology. DMI has the world’s first outpatient prostate imaging program that provides comprehensive detection, localization, biopsy, and focal laser therapy for the treatment of prostate cancer under MRI guidance. Founder and medical director Dr. John F. Feller notes that DMI’s emphasis on education and product development has played a significant role in its current position as an industry leader.
“We have several missions, and one involves the development of hardware and software for companies who develop MRI machines,” he explains. “These relationships allow us to partake in the development of various products and be the first outpatient imaging center of its kind to have university-level technology.”
Education is another one of DMI’s missions. DMI is a leading educator, training fellows from around the world. Dr. Feller has been on faculty for 15 years at Stanford University and is on the faculty at Loma Linda University in the School of Medicine. He travels extensively, speaking at continuing medical education meetings, and has given over 300 invited lectures worldwide on orthopedic and body MR imaging, as well as on positron emission tomography (PET/CT). While DMI is clearly a high-tech imaging innovator and educator, Dr. Feller emphasizes that DMI’s stellar reputation stems from its patient care-centered philosophy. In fact, providing exceptional patient care is another key component of the practice’s multifaceted mission statement.
“Radiology is a continuously and rapidly advancing field, but the bottom line is we are here to help people,” he states. “At DMI, we put patients first and business second. When you do that, the business part takes care of itself.”
