For more than 30 years, Desert Orthopedic Center has been the acknowledged leader in orthopedic care. Founded as a solo practice by Robert W. Murphy, M.D., M.P.H., in 1976, Desert Orthopedic Center has evolved into one of the most comprehensive practices in the nation, with full-service programs in all areas of orthopedics: foot and ankle surgery, podiatry, hand and upper extremity surgery, spine surgery, sports medicine, pediatric orthopedics, orthopedic trauma, and acupuncture.

In 2010, Eisenhower Medical Center and Desert Orthopedic Center formally aligned their long-standing relationship, becoming Eisenhower Desert Orthopedic Center. Creating an integrated, team-oriented approach to patient care allows Eisenhower Medical Center to operate Eisenhower Desert Orthopedic Center as a licensed outpatient clinic of the hospital in which physicians can continue to focus on what they do best: provide the best orthopedic care to their patients.

At its offices located on the Eisenhower Medical Center campus in the Harry and Diane Rinker Building, Eisenhower Desert Orthopedic Center offers patients the convenience of on-site X-ray, clinical visits, MRI, outpatient surgery, and physical therapy. “Along with the amazing expertise represented by our physicians, physician assistants, and physical therapists, our patients really appreciate the convenience and familiarity of having all their services provided in a single location,” states Dr. David Friscia, chairman of Desert Orthopedic Center. Additional locations in Palm Springs and Indio provide valleywide access.

Physicians stay abreast of all the recent advancements, including minimally invasive procedures and techniques that reduce scarring, promote faster healing, and minimize both hospital and recovery time. In many instances, the physicians are on the front edge of the development for new techniques and materials. This is evidenced by the availability of robotic-assisted surgeries, which helps to ensure more precise movements and thus less trauma to the surrounding area and a quicker recovery time.
