Description:

Bridging The Gap Between The ER And The Doctor's Office

By Carolyn Patten

Dedicated to "bridging the gap" between an individual’s primary care doctor and the emergency room by providing quality healthcare for non-life-threatening health issues, Executive Urgent Care in Indian Wells opened in the summer of 2011 and quickly earned a reputation as the finest urgent care facility in the Coachella Valley.

The American Academy of Urgent Care Medicine defines urgent care medicine as a distinct specialty, providing “immediate medical service offering outpatient care for the treatment of acute and chronic illness and injury. It requires a broad and comprehensive fund of knowledge to provide such care. Excellence in care for patients with complex and or unusual conditions is founded on the close communication and collaboration between the urgent care medicine physician, the specialists, and the primary physicians.”

Although urgent care medicine has much in common with family practice and emergency medicine — caring for both female and male patients of any age with any complaint — the academy notes that “urgent care medicine, in reality, is a separate specialty with a distinct knowledge base, skill set, and required breadth of experience.”

Director Dan Olesnicky, M.D., who is residency trained and board certified in both emergency medicine and internal medicine, also has a great interest in wellness medicine and a background in molecular genetics from New York University’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. He explains that the upscale facility was created to “fill in a missing piece of our community’s healthcare puzzle.

“With the ongoing shortage of physicians, especially here in the valley, there are many times when you need to see a doctor immediately, but it just isn’t possible to get an appointment with your primary care physician,” he says. “You don’t really need to go to the ER and don’t want to spend hours waiting in that crowded, stressful environment.”

Dr. Olesnicky says the facility, which is staffed seven days a week, “is better equipped to handle non-life-threatening healthcare issues than overloading our emergency departments. Our physicians treat clients with a ‘no rush’ approach in an calming environment where we understand that our patients’ time and well-being are precious commodities.”

PARTNERING WITH PERSONAL PHYSICIANS FOR CONTINUITY OF CARE
“We can provide a single service or a full array of services,” Dr. Olesnicky says, “and we are also very skilled at partnering with the patient’s primary care doctor for a valuable ‘team’ experience. We really do act as an extension of the patient’s regular physician, providing a secure environment and consulting as needed.

“Most immediate-care facilities and emergency rooms that are part of a larger hospital or medical center will not share their records with private physicians. We understand that the patient is our priority, and we will always provide that coordination between our services and the patient’s primary care doctor.”

Executive Urgent Care is also appropriate for virtually any condition short of life-threatening emergencies. “Executive Urgent Care understands your immediate need for outstanding medicine,” Dr. Olesnicky says. “Our patients deserve the highest quality, most efficient care at the moment they need it. A great many of our patients come to us on a walk-in basis, and we also offer appointments online and by phone.”

QUALITY HEALTHCARE THAT’S LESS EXPENSIVE THAN THE ER
According to the American Academy of Urgent Care Medicine, “Due to the simpler administrative procedures and costs associated with office-based versus hospital-based practice, similar care in an urgent care medicine setting can generally be provided more quickly and economically than in an emergency medicine setting.”

Dr. Olesnicky says, “Executive Urgent Care accepts most insurance plans, and we have a competitive fee schedule for our cash patients. There are no hidden fees. There is often a much lower co-pay for our services. In all, a visit to Executive Urgent Care usually is less than one-fourth the cost of an emergency room visit.”

As the valley’s leader in urgent care, “We absolutely put the patient first,” Dr. Olesnicky says. “Our existence and growth depends 100 percent on patient satisfaction and patients coming back because they are pleased with the quality and personal attention they receive from our physicians. We are very proud of our facility, our success and our services.”

Executive Urgent Care is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.
