Dr. Andrew Ordon, an Emmy-nominated co-host of TV's "The Doctors," celebrates 30 years of practice in 2015 – 15 of those with an office in Rancho Mirage. Dr. Ritu Chopra is a nationally recognized expert and news media contributor on health and skin issues. The two-board certified physicians came together in 2008 to create a fullservice medical practice catering to patients with general surgery and plastic surgery needs ranging from simple aesthetic improvements to life-saving procedures. The two highly esteemed physicians regularly collaborate on surgeries.
The Institute is on a vintage mini-estate barely off Highway 111 yet worlds away with its comfortable charm and soothing atmosphere. "We love practicing in Rancho Mirage," says Dr. Ordon. "We are proud to be part of the community where we often greet patients at the grocery store," adds Dr. Chopra. Both doctors are on staff at Eisenhower Medical Center nearby, where Dr. Ordon utilizes his training in headneck surgery and reconstruction, and Dr. Chopra specializes in reconstruction of the breast (after mastectomy) and face (after skin cancer).
Both doctors are readily available at the Plastic Surgery Institute's Rancho Mirage office by appointment. Services include a full spectrum of noninvasive, minimally invasive, and major plastic and reconstructive procedures. The Institute also offers a complete menu of spa and laser services that can be used in conjunction with surgeries or on their own. One of the newest is the ICON Laser treatment used for age spots, sun damage, skin tone and texture, wrinkles, surgical and acne scars, and stretch marks.
With his wealth of experience treating traumatic injuries and congenital conditions, Dr. Ordon is a leader in reconstructive surgery. He is uniquely skilled at repairing injuries from accidents — as evidenced by a recent case of a patient whose nose was bitten off. Dr. Ordon and Dr. Chopra performed a successful, pro bono surgery that will be featured on a national TV show in the near future. Says Dr. Ordon, "These kinds of cases are very challenging, but the end result is extremely gratifying."
Dr. Chopra is respected by his peers for his exceptional diagnostic and surgical skills, and by his patients for his caring and approachable manner. His emphasis on procedures such as facelifts and body contouring after weight loss or bariatric surgery gives patients a new lease on life. He specializes in aesthetic plastic and reconstructive surgery of the face, body, and breasts.
Consultation is key to a winning outcome. The Plastic Surgery Institute is a leader in providing plastic surgery revisions. The doctors see many patients that have had plastic surgery done in the past. Some of the needed fixes are due to work that was done improperly to start; others are a result of the natural process of aging over time. Both physicians agree that newer techniques can improve anyone's look at any age.
"I have been privileged to help rebuild and enhance the lives of many individuals over the years. Dr. Chopra and I are dedicated to a doctorpatient relationship that begins with trust and ends with the successful completion of natural rejuvenation or reconstruction that adds quality to our patients' lives," observes Dr. Ordon.
The Plastic Surgery Institute is a state-of-theart medical center accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities with two certified registered nurses on staff, a complete surgery suite, and recovery facilities. Patients undergoing reconstruction or repair on more than one area of the body benefit from the Institute's tandem surgery approach. With Dr. Ordon and Dr. Chopra performing procedures at the same time, the patient experiences less fatigue, requires less sedation, and can often save on fees by avoiding duplication of costs. Between the two specialists, the Institute offers head-to-toe capabilities.
Facelifts are one of the most popular services at both the Beverly Hills and Rancho Mirage offices of Drs. Ordon and Chopra. "We spend a great deal of time dispelling the fear of the ‘pulled look' facelift," says Dr. Chopra. "Today's designer lifts treat the skin and the underlying tissue for a natural and long-lasting look. Coupled with new innovations like CO2 laser treatments and fat injections, patients can expect comprehensive facial rejuvenation," Dr. Ordon adds.
Another area of expertise the doctors have brought to the desert is reconstructive surgery following cancer. Consulting with the medical oncology team at Eisenhower Medical Center, Dr. Ordon and Dr. Chopra have provided followup breast and skin reconstruction to numerous patients whose treatment might have left them cured of the disease but scarred by the surgeries it took for the effort. Making a patient feel "whole again" after a battle with cancer is something both doctors take very seriously.
Andrew P. Ordon, M.D., F.A.C.S. received his medical degree from USC School of Medicine with Honors in Medicine. His general surgery and head and neck surgery training were completed at USC, UCLA, and Loma Linda. He completed his training in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Lenox Hill Hospital/Manhattan Eye and Ear Infirmary Program in New York City.
Ritu Chopra, M.S., M.D., received a Master in Medical Sciences followed by his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills. He was also accepted into the esteemed Albert Einstein School of Medicine in New York.
