Dr. Wendy Roberts is one of the leading dermatologists in the world. She specializes in age-defying techniques to save our skin from the effects of the outside world and internal dynamics of aging. A graduate of Stanford Medical School, she went on to earn three medical degrees, which included General Surgery, Dermatology and a Pathology fellowship at New York University Medical Center under Dr. Bernard Ackerman, who is considered one of the greatest minds in dermatopathology (where skin tissue biopsies are studied under a microscope, allowing for a definitive diagnosis).

Extensive Education and Experience

Dr. Roberts is a diplomate of both the American Board of Dermatology and American Board of Dermatopathology and has earned an international reputation as an outstanding lecturer and key opinion leader in innovation and discovery of new and vital skincare processes. In 2009 she was appointed president of the third-largest Dermatologic Association in the United States: the Women’s Dermatologic Society, where she served until 2010. She has been invited to appear and speak throughout the world, including Europe, India, and Ghana to lecture on generational dermatology, procedural safety and cosmetic dermatology. She was the chair of geriatric dermatology at the World Congress of Dermatology held in 2011 in Seoul, Korea.

A Healer and an Innovator

Dr. Roberts has taken courageous steps to break the barriers that have burdened our skincare problems of the past, specializing in generational dermatology, cosmetic dermatology, and dermatology in skin of color. Dr. Roberts was voted by her medical colleagues as a “Best Doctor” in Palm Springs Life since the inception of the award in 2005 and again in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012. She says, “This is such an honor to be named by my colleagues and I am humbled.’’ Dr. Roberts’ education and personal care of her patients was highlighted nationally in 2011 when she was chosen by Glamour magazine as a “Rock-Star Dermatologist” and called “youth booster.” Since she began her practice, Dr. Roberts has infused her exuberance and exhilaration when discussing cosmetic rejuvenation into a contagious reality. She felt the name “youth booster” was perfect. “Very plainly, at no time in our lives have we had more technology and education to ‘take back the years’ and maintain our skin for a lifetime of beauty.”

Most recently Dr. Roberts been recognized in the June 2012 issues of Oprah and Essence magazines as a prestigious skin expert. She is a national spokesperson and the face of L’Oreal/La Roche Posay’s sun-safety campaign (www.sossaveourskin.com). “This aligns with what I do every day in my office in Rancho Mirage,” she says.

A True Gem of The Desert

Dr. Roberts has practiced in Rancho Mirage since 1994. The Coachella Valley is fortunate to have such a highly accomplished professional who before establishing her practice was recruited right out of fellowship by Loma Linda University Medical Center in 1992 as founding director of the division of dermatopathology, where she was assistant clinical professor of dermatology and Internal Medicine and Assistant Professor of dermatology and internal medicine.

She is an advisory board and faculty member of Cosmetic Bootcamp, is a leading physician-training institute committed to providing ongoing education to physicians and their staff s on the proper and safe practice of cosmetic dermatology.

Dr. Roberts has pioneered a unique specialty: generational dermatology. This is a key part of her practice and a valuable medical resource given the desert’s demographics. She is on a mission to educate patients about this type of preventative dermatology. She developed the Roberts Skin Type Classification System©, a groundbreaking system in its approach to identifying and communicating medical details regarding all skin color types. She discussed this on The Today Show as a first-of-its kind skin health program entitled America’s Ethnic Skin, addressing the special concerns, challenges, and issues affecting America’s diverse population.

The Coachella Valley has long been home to Dr. Roberts. “Organizational service is so very important,” she say. She consistently gives back to the community. She is a former president of the Desert Palms Area American Cancer Society, served on the board of director for Desert Aids Project, and has also volunteered with Gilda’s Club and Palms Springs Desert Museum. In 2005 at the Kraft Nabisco Championship in Rancho Mirage, she founded the Play Safe in the Sun skin cancer awareness program with the Women’s Dermatologic Society, A community service program where dermatologists volunteer their time and education, and has gone on to screen millions of people around the nation.
