A decade ago, Loyola Law School graduate Amir Afsar finished the bar exam in Los Angeles and drove straight to the desert. His wife had attended Palm Desert High School, and his parents had retired here. It was where he wanted to live, build a business, and raise a family.

“There are no shortcuts in life,” says Afsar, who now runs Afsar Law Group, A.P.C. “You have to do hard work. School trains you for that.”

Afsar chose business law and real estate development litigation as an emphasis to allow him to have a “toe in the water” in a broad range of businesses, from gold buying to restaurants. The father of two young girls, the attorney believes in working with youth for the betterment of the community.

“I speak with a La Quinta High School class every year,” Afsar says. “I tell them that if you work hard and believe in yourself, you can become anything you want — a doctor or a lawyer or anything.”

He feels his generation is focused on community and unity, as well as honoring people for their uniqueness. Afsar confesses to having a less serious side as well.

“In school, I was the class clown,” he says. “I’d love to have Jimmy Fallon’s job on The Tonight Show.”
