Seattle, teaching and building his business, he relocated to his native state of Colorado. Battaglia Studios emerged soon thereafter to include decorative and fine art finishes & murals. He has been doing commissions for the rich and famous from New York City to Beverly Hills for over thirty years. He did work for the former owners of Architectural Digest. Many have seen his work at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas. He has been doing commissions for Desert Art Collection (a subsidiary of Fedderly Interiors) here in the desert, for the past 15 years. He has been doing fine art shows at Desert Art Collection for the past seven years because he realized he had to show his work in galleries to be considered a fine art painter. Since then his mural paintings have been purchased by collectors across the United States and Canada, including Alaska and Hawaii. His work can now also be found in corporate collections, most notable being Investco, Seattle. He continues to do commission work throughout the United States. He is sought after for is unusual and unique ragged-edged paintings and unusual ancient writings and pictographs. Much of Mr. Battaglia’s work has a classical Italian influence. He loves to travel to all the coastal and hillside towns of Italy. He draws much of his inspiration from the ancient buildings, historical environments, unusual rock formations and the play of light on old world surfaces. The work varies from the sardonic, to paradoxical, to enchantment and romance. It tells stories. The work has a profound metaphor or symbolism underlying its creation. Most of Mr. Battaglia’s work has a spiritual and mystical quality to its imagery and story. The “gracefully aged look” is Battaglia’s specialty. “My art has always tended toward antiquity”, he says. “It is about this catharsis of etching, layering, writing in the “Terra” of the body and soul...Being true to myself means searching and discovering our lost selves, languages, symbols, myths, feelings, relationships, poetry, archetypal complexities, mystical passions--all there in the strata of our beings--calling for discovery...My hope is that you will find in these paintings a part of your lost history.” Battaglia’s was one of 650 artists from around the world selected to show in the 2012 Florence Biennale in Italy. His work has been featured in Colorado Homes, Palm Springs Life, House & Garden, Metropolitan Home and Southwest Art magazines. His work has also been featured in the Denver Post. Michael is represented exclusively by Desert Art Collection in Palm Desert, California. The Artist Reception on Saturday, March 16th, is free and open to the public.
