Take a Dive into Palm Springs Pool Culture

When Madonna sang “Burning Up,” who knew she’d turn out to be such a sage.

It’s hot, people. The only person doing worse than we are during a summer in the Greater Palm Springs area is Hades himself. It’s time to cool off, strip down to your skivvies, and #getlucky.

"Splash House" is the newest indulgence headed for the Coachella Valley, Aug. 10-11.

The two-day music and swim-culture festival features three simultaneous pool parties (feel free to do several laps before committing to your final location), cutting-edge music from artists like Poolside (You’ll remember from their outstanding cover of Neil Young’s classic, “Harvest Moon”), and a slew of hella dope DJs like Viceroy, Posso and Kidnap Kid at the Curve Palm Springs, the Saguaro, and Caliente Tropics hotels.

Much like the Coachella Music and Arts Festival, attendees will be outfitted with a wristband that gives them access to the event for its duration at all three hotels. And in our humble Valley of the Dolls, shuttle access will also be available.

If you’re still not convinced, perhaps Kelly McLean – one of the people behind the event – can successfully steer you toward this wet and wild good time.

“The beauty of Splash House is that we are bringing the party to the Valley,” McLean says. “In fact, this is the ultimate ‘Staycation’. And unlike other major music festivals that involve hiking across miles of parking lots and are super crowded, 'Splash House' will be a stylish series of pool parties, where locals can hang out and relax.

“Not to mention that you cannot see this many major artists at any single pool party, so who would want to go to Vegas or L.A., when they can lounge poolside in Palm Springs and let the music come to them?”

So head to the Saguaro Hotel, order the tallest glass of (Mike’s Hard) lemonade or (Long Island) iced tea you can find, and dive in.
