Susan G. Komen Foundation
Enjoy some pampering to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa in Rancho Mirage.

FILM
"The Empire of Grandeur"
As an accompaniment to George Catlin's American Buffalo at the Palm Springs Art Museum, the third screening of producer Ken Burns' (pictured right) documentary will cover the creation of the National Park Service and influence of its early leaders.

ART
A Dream Fulfilled
Lon Michels is fulfilling a lifetime dream with the opening of his own art gallery in Palm Springs featuring his work and that of his partner, Todd Olson. The official opening is 5-9 p.m. Oct. 26. Read our profile of Michels, including the VIDEO on his mother's artistic influence.

At The River
To prep fans of the Rancho Mirage Art Affaire, a trio of artists whose work will be featured in the Nov. 9-10 event will show their work at The River for three weeks from 3-8 p.m. daily.

Highway 62 Art Tours
The Morongo Basin Cultural Arts celebrates artistic talent Oct. 26-27 along a 30-mile stretch of Highway 62 between Morongo Valley and Twentynine Palms. This weekend features Twentynine Palms and Wonder Valley. Read our profile of three High Desert artists and watch the VIDEO featuring their work.

The Art of War
This project gives recognition to military poets and writers, who will share their experiences in words and images starting at 6:30 pm. Oct. 25 at the Joshua Tree Listening Lounge.

FASHION
Poolside Stylin'
Beyond the huge addition the Hard Rock Hotel Palm Springs is slated to bring to the local music scene, it's also putting itself out there as a gathering place for fashionistas. "Fashion Splash" brings some of the hottest swimwear designers to the hotel for evening fashion shows Oct. 25-26 starting at 9 p.m. Oct. 27 is a fashion-inspired pool party open to the public on a first come, first serve ticket format.

MUSIC
Under the Stars
The city of Palm Desert offers free concerts on Thursdays in October. This week features Shaken Not Stirred, which plays high-energy dance music with a country bent.

Indian Wells Theater
A new season of tribute performances starts with Sherie Rae Parker as Bette Middler and Jim Malmberg as Johnny Carson Oct. 25 in the 300-seat performing arts theater on the CSUSB campus in Palm Desert. Read our interview with the man behind the shows.

THEATER
"All in the Timing"

College of the Desert's Theatre Too presents this collection of one-acts by award-winning writer David Ives. This is the closing weekend.

MAKE ME LAUGH
Comedic genius Lewis Black will scream at you, but his brand of humor will keep you laughing at 9 p.m. Oct. 25 at The Show at Agua Caliente in Rancho Mirage.

GET YOUR MOTOR RUNNING
Pump up the Volume

The roar of motorcycle engines will fill the streets of downtown Palm Springs, Oct. 25-27, for the "American Heat" Motorcycle Weekend. Motorcycle enthusiasts will gather on Palm Canyon Drive, between Tahquitz Canyon Way and Ramon Road, from 5:30 a.m. Oct. 25 to 11 p.m. Oct. 27.Pump up the Volume

HALLOWEEN
Annual Zombie Walk

Join this Halloween tradition dressed as your true Zombie self. Starts at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 at the corner of Baristo Road and South Palm Canyon Drive. There is a 21 and older after party at The Crazy Coconut Bar & Grill starting at 9.

"Howl-O-Ween" at The Living Desert
Get out your cowboy boots and western wear, and git on down to the old western town to trick-or-treat and have a great time for the whole family. The Living Desert's Wild, Wild West theme is just part of a jam-packed evening, Oct. 25-27. Read our story for helpful tips.

"It's Just a Jump to the Right"
Take in the classic "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" at midnight every Friday in October at Camelot Theaters in Palm Springs. It's also running at 10 p.m. Oct. 25-26 at Cinemas Palme d'Or in Palm Desert.

Idyllwild Haunted Ghost Town

FESTS
VillageFest and COD Street Fair

As the "season" approaches, both weekly fests are gearing up. VillageFest has moved to its fall hours of 6-10 p.m. Thursdays on Palm Canyon Drive. At College of the Desert in Palm Desert, Street Fair operates 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays.

HIT THE ROAD, JACK
Tram Road Challenge

One of the tougher courses to tackle due to the change in elevation, the Tram Road Challenge Oct. 26 starts at the bottom of Tram Road in north Palm Springs and finishes at the Valley Station some 3.7 miles later.

CAR SHOW
Park It

Take a trip back in time by attending the Great Autos of Yesteryear benefit car show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. oct. 26 at the Desert Princess Country Club in Cathedreal City. Great Autos celebrates its 30th year as the largest gay and lesbian car club on the west coast. More than 150 classics expected.
