Hike trails dark and rich with earth while caressed by a cool breeze. Breathe in fresh mountain air and marvel at white fir and sugar pine. Enjoy a change of scenery. Dine overlooking the Coachella Valley at Peaks Restaurant or grab a bite at the more casual Pines Café. Enjoy all this and more on your Palm Springs Aerial Tramway adventure, taking you 8,500 feet above the desert floor.

Travel through narrow Chino Canyon on the world’s largest rotating tram car pulled by massive cables that stretch over a series of towers. The vision of young engineer Francis F. Crocker, Palm Springs Aerial Tramway opened on Sept. 14, 1963, after overcoming engineering and political challenges so great that it was dubbed the “eighth wonder of the world.” Today, it is easily one of the desert’s most popular attractions.

While the tram offers four-season fun, summer is a great time to visit. Summer passes are valid until Aug. 31. Pass holders enjoy unlimited tram rides, discounts at Mountain Station restaurants, and more. Explore more than 54 miles of hiking trails and camping and picnicking areas within the 14,000-acre Mount San Jacinto State Park and Wilderness Area.
