Toscana Country Club hosted a scholarship fundraiser to promote the Battle of the High Schools, a Coachella Valley Economic Partnership initiative to encourage local students to apply for federal and state financial assistance for college. “Education is economic vitality,” CVEP CEO/President Tom Flavin told more than 130 guests. The highlight of the evening was hearing from four scholarship recipients — Vanessa Gonzalez, Esteban Ramos, Mark Kentley, Khoa Nguyen — who spoke of the life-changing opportunities they gained by applying for the scholarships, and also of their college and career trajectories. The Boys & Girls Club jazz band entertained throughout the event, which was sponsored by Toscana Country Club, Massage Envy, Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, and Wal-Mart.
