A hot summer day was the perfect time for more than 150 supporters of ACT for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) to gather at Mission Hills Country Club for cool jazz, courtesy of Bill Marx and some of Southern California’s best jazz musicians.
Guests enjoyed Don Shelton on wood winds, Jay Lewis on drums, and Tibor Lesko on bass. There were also some impromptu surprises like singer Frank DeSalvo, who shared some favorites, a cute number by Bonnie Gilgallon and Sharon DiHaworth, fiddler Eric Frankson, and a peppy song from Grace Robbins.
Attendees enjoyed shopping for bargains at the silent auction table between sips of wine, beer, soft or hard drinks.
Committee members were Ann Greer, Norma Greer Fishkind, and Sharon DiHaworth, chairs, and Robin Montgomery, Bill Marx, and John Lambert. Suz Hunt, ACT for Multiple Sclerosis board president, welcomed guests and founding president Gloria Greer asked guests to reserve March 27, 2015, for Beach Party II – the spring gala at Renaissance Esmeralda featuring Dean Torrence and the Surf City AllStars.
Jim Conway, ACT for MS Treasurer who is afflicted by the disease, spoke briefly about the programs offered and the positive health improvement derived from those programs offered free of charge by ACT for MS throughout the year.
Act for MS board member Marc Byrd was thanked for the beautiful floral center pieces he donated while the staff at Mission Hills Country Club was thanked for their efforts to make this sixth annual summer event a whopping success, especially Nicole Hughes, director of private events and tournament sales and food and beverage manager Chris Howe.
