Richard MacDonald, internationally acclaimed figurative sculptor, exhibited new work inspired by the theme of “Duality” at the Dawson Cole Fine Art Gallery in Palm Desert.

MacDonald describes the inspiration as the melding and balancing of opposites to create balance, harmony, and insight into the principles of Ying and Yang. MacDonald has achieved international distinction for his sculpture, paintings, and drawings, and his work has been shown and exhibited worldwide including London, Singapore, Barcelona, Paris, Hong Kong, and the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C.

MacDonald also unveiled a portrait bust of Dr. Zein Obagi, world-renowned authority on skincare and founder of ZO® Skin Health and ZO Skin Centres®. As a patient of Dr. Obagi, MacDonald was inspired to create the bust, in part because of the dual nature of their relationship. “I find it very interesting that I’m sculpting him in clay,” says MacDonald, “while he’s sculpting me in science.”

“It’s my true honor to work with such a great genius and beautiful human being,” MacDonald added. “A man who brings art and science together to create beauty. It’s been my great pleasure to know Zein Obagi and his lovely wife, Samar.”

Ariane MacDonald and Samar Obagi arranged a dinner in Beverly Hills to introduce Richard MacDonald to Dr. Obagi. They became wonderful friends and the collaboration began for the portrait commission.
