For gynecologist Dr. Enrique G. Jacome, technology is something to embrace and share.

“I have always been a cutting-edge type of guy,” he says, “not only as an individual but as a doctor as well.” Jacome is indeed an expert in his field, specializing in minimally invasive laparoscopic and pelvic reconstructive surgery at Rancho Mirage’s Fleur Women’s Health Center and at Eisenhower Medical Center.

“Our practice [at Fleur] has excelled by providing state-of-the-art medical care and surgical technology,” Jacome says. “Medical technology is constantly evolving, and in the field of gynecology, we have seen some amazing advances in the field of genetics for prenatal diagnosis, reproductive assisted technology for the treatment of infertility, and advanced medical imaging for the early diagnosis of breast cancer.”

Jacome was the first gynecologic surgeon to perform a robotic hysterectomy in Riverside County and is an expert on da Vinci robotic surgery. Jacome and his team have successfully performed approximately 600 robotic-assisted gynecologic procedures and can confidently offer women this latest approach for a faster recovery with smaller incisions, less pain, fewer complications, and shorter hospitalizations.

For suitable candidates, Jacome also offers bioidentical hormone replacement therapy by way of fused pellet implants, a sophisticated and well-tolerated form of hormonal correction that is, despite its efficacy, not frequently used in the U.S.

An avid cyclist and runner, Jacome says he strives to stay in top physical condition. His advice to patients on illness prevention may sound surprisingly low-tech: Follow a healthy diet and exercise, and avoid bad habits like smoking.

Workouts don’t have to be intimidating and strenuous, he adds: enough “sweatless” exercise can prevent the medical issues most patients have, such as hypertension, obesity, heart conditions, and their subsequent complications.

Always wanting to share the latest developments, Jacome points out that for women, new therapies such as bioidentical hormones can make life more comfortable.

“Many go through what we call hormonal imbalances, and it’s something we’ve learned to live with,” he says. “But it’s important for people to understand that they no longer have to live with it — they have a choice, and they can choose to have a much, much better life.”

Jacome advises women to check with the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology to find the right doctor: “Their certification states that they’re up to date and current on the way to treat most common gynecologic problems,” he says.
