Free Dance Party Draws Crowd

Ace Hotel Hosts World Famous Mix Of Music

Sarah Schiedeman Arts & Entertainment, Social Scene

A dance floor packed full of trendsetters and a DJ straight from Coachella Fest, lights flashing across the room as friends pose for pictures and outside by the pool, art — as party-goers make their own memories of a night out with friends — a sight you would expect to see in Los Angeles or New York.

This is Palm Springs.

Every last Saturday of the month, DJ Alf Alpha and The Coachella Valley Art Scene host World Famous, a free dance party inside the Amigo Room of the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs.

Alpha takes the party on a musical journey from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. spinning multi-genre party, playing dance music from around the globe. His beat has prompted attention beyond the desert and across the globe with write-ups and images posted on blogs and social media.

Born and raised in the Coachella Valley, he played Coachella Fest the past two years, rocking not just the Sahara and Gobi Tents, but also the Oasis Dome and the Silent Disco.

Fans love him for delivering a little bit of everything, throwing dancers curve balls with the next song and making the party sing.

Ask anyone on the dance floor why they like him, and they might answer with his signature slogan, “he pleys soooo good.”

The surprising twist of the night happens when your body needs to take a break from the rhythm – a craft table beckons from outside on the Moroccan Patio.  Here, party-goers create their own party favors – like hats, beanies or bling on their clothes — a personalized souvenir.

It seems the free craft table not only encourages people to express their creativity but also works as a great ice breaker.
