Wearable Art Worn by Community Leaders

Gloria Greer Social Scene

Community leaders modeled unique wearable art by Lon Michels and jewelry by Alex Hunter on Sunday, Oct. 5 at Copley’s in Palm Springs to benefit the Desert Blind & Handicapped Association. Brian Wanzek was master of ceremonies and speakers included George Holliday, president of the non-profit organization that provides transportation for people with disabilities unable to drive safely.

Approximately 100 guests attended the afternoon underwritten by Copley’s. Fine wine was available while trays of hors d’oeuvres and miniature desserts were served on the patio before and after the spectacular fashion parade. Models were Melissa Ballard, Cindy Ferris, Albert Gonzales, Dr. Raila Horne, Barbara and Jerry Keller, Rose King, Berenda Lynn Martin, Michelle Michou, Bianca Rae, Willie Rhine, Charlene Robbins, Grace Robbins, Sara Rogers, Theresa Rogers, Angela Romero, and Laurie Wietz. Artist Lon Michels creates the wearable art by hand painting fabric on gowns and furs to give each item an entirely new look. The outcome is truly amazing. Michel’s work can be seen at the Lon Michel’s Gallery on Palm Canyon Drive.
