Event attracts 675 to historic Johnny Mercer Estate

Hank Plante and Melinda Tremaglio, long time human rights activists, were Advocate for Equality Honorees at the 14th annual Human Rights Campaign Garden Party Nov. 2. The event was hosted by Jim Burba and Bob Hayes at their home, the former Johnny Mercer Estate in Palm Springs.

Six hundred seventy-five attended including special guests U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer, Ty Cobb, Director of Global Engagement Human Rights Campaign Foundation, and surprise guest actress Carol Channing who made a presentation to Bruce Vilanch on behalf of HRC for his achievements as a writer, comedian, and human rights activist.

Windermere Real Estate was Presenting Sponsor. Additional sponsors included Eisenhower Medical Center, city of Palm Springs, Trio, 1st Community, Design 849, True Value, Saks Fifth Avenue, Jayne Alberta, and Presenting Media Sponsor Palm Springs Life.

Approximately $85,000 was raised during the afternoon. HRC improves the lives of LGBT Americans locally and nationally by advocating for equal rights and benefits in the workplace, ensuring that families are treated equally under the law, and increasing public support among Americans.
