In episode three of the second season of the hit sitcom Modern Family, a flamboyant gay character portrayed by Nathan Lane expressed his anguish when no one accepted an invitation to one of his over-the-top (costume) brunches:
“You’re going to die alone in a quaint Spanish revival outside of Palm Springs — or La Quinta.”
