A relaxing massage, a polishing body scrub, a cleansing facial—these treatments are on the menu at every spa, and many spas in the desert have perfected and personalized their own signature treatments, using techniques and products in combinations that can be found nowhere else.

A few of the favorites:

The Spa at the Ritz-Carlton has two 100-minute treatments based on the lore and traditions of the Coachella Valley. Spirit of the Mountains is a full-body experience that uses desert herbs and mineral salts in a medley of exfoliation, warm stone massage, detoxifying body wrap and scalp treatment, all promising to “cleanse, calm and soothe the body and mind.” The Sec-he Rock Ritual takes its inspiration from the ancient Cahuilla term for present-day Rancho Mirage, which translates to “boiling water.” The water isn’t quite boiling, but it is warm and calming, and the ritual includes a scrub, soak and hot stone massage.

Among the featured products at this spa are those made by Nature Bisse, an innovative skin care company that got its start in Spain and entered the U.S. market in 1990. Now an international company with a devoted celebrity following, it is known for its high-tech products that deliver significant anti-aging benefits. The signature Natura Bisse facial at the Ritz-Carlton is packed with Vitamin C to stimulate collagen, increase firmness, and minimize sun damage.

Intraceutical facials are a signature at the Spa at Saguaro in Palm Springs, using the proprietary Rejuvenate anti-aging products along with an oxygenating machine that helps each product penetrate deeply and produce results said to mimic (though fleetingly) the effects of Botox. This facial, which leaves every face glowing and with less-visible fine lines and wrinkles, is hugely popular before special events. The signature massage here is the Desert Essence Poultice, an hour and a half of relaxation helped along with a special blend of wild-crafted herbal compresses.

Intraceuticals products are incorporated into the signature facial at the Spa at Saguaro Palm Springs.

In Indian Wells, the Well at Miramonte Resort & Spa has long been famous for its “Pittura Festa,” targeted to fun-loving couples in need of some therapeutic play and laughter. This painting party is served up with a big palette-full of colorful, therapeutic muds for mutual messiness, and followed by a shower and custom couples massage. There’s also the Spa Escape Package, a mini staycation that includes overnight lodging, full spa access, and a 60-minute massage, facial or wrap.

The Well’s signature products include Sciote Skin & Body, with U.S.-source, natural ingredients, and Zents, known for its pure, hand-harvested botanicals and delicious aromatherapy scents, custom-blended for each client.
