Les Dames D'Escoffier Presents L'Affaire Francaise

Celebrating Grande Dame Julia Child’s 100th Birthday Year

Donna Curran

The Palm Springs Chapter of this international association of women in the culinary field presents its thirteenth annual fundraiser to benefit the Thelma Pressman Memorial Scholarship Fund. Thelma was one of the founding members of the Palm Springs Chapter established in 1996.

An elegant Escoffier dinner with wine pairings by the Gerard Bertrand Winery, to complement the exquisite menu of Executive Chef Pascal Lallemand at Wally’s Desert Turtle, one of the most romantic restaurants in the desert.

All Les Dames d’Escoffier chapters conduct fundraising projects and awards scholarships on various levels. To date, our chapters around the world have collectively raised more than $3,000.000 in scholarships for deserving students. Our awardees have attended College of the Desert as well as fine schools out of the are, such as the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York; Johnson and Wales, Denver, Colorado; and Cal State-Pomona. Often our recipients are young women who are the first in their families to attend college. As the student progresses through her schooling, we continue to mentor her and encourage her to attend chapter meetings and events.

We are involved with international’s “Green Tables” Civic Agriculture & Garden Initiative, whose goals are to promote community health and well being, fostering our members’ leadership in the local food movement, enhance the use of locally grown food, and inspire focus on the value of regional farmers to the community. We currently support the organic gardening program at Palm Springs High School and will aid other area schools.

With the continued dedication and contributions of our membership, and the support and generosity of the community, we hope to increase this fund. We are dedicated to creating a supportive culture in our community and to achieving excellence in the food, fine beverage, hospitality, and arts of the table professions.

Come on out to Wally’s for a fabulous evening of fine food, excellent wine, music, and an L’Affaire Française to remember.
