Like most success stories, Dr. Rose Tijerina-Swearingen’s overwhelming admiration and success has been based on her distinctive quality of care for individuals who have not been able to maintain abstinence and who are suffering from addiction and other co-occurring diseases. Life’s Journey Center, Inc. in Palm Springs has earned a reputation as one of the country’s most successful treatment centers for conquering addiction and preventing relapse, thanks to the passion and perseverance of its founder and executive director, Dr. Rose Tijerina-Swearingen.

Life’s Journey Center is a private-licensed and state-certified residential treatment facility, with a transitional living component for the recovering adult. The center provides an individualized level of care with a multidisciplinary treatment team approach and offers private and semi-private rooms that overlook the tranquil surroundings of the San Jacinto Mountains. The healing process begins with the compassion and sensitivity implemented perceptively by Dr. Rose and her staff. The center provides a safe, structured environment with hope for every individual who has experienced failed attempts at sobriety. Life’s Journey Center is dedicated in helping every individual in making sobriety a way of life.

Life’s Journey Center uses a holistic, non-traditional approach to treatment while embracing the 12-step philosophy of Alcoholic’s Anonymous. The core treatment function is designed to maximize each individual’s level of care with individual therapy sessions, relapse prevention, gender-specific groups, and education on the disease process, cross addiction and other co-occurring disorders. The center’s philosophy to wellness is “wholistic”, and integrates body, mind and spirit, emphasizing physical wellness, psychological wholeness and social and spiritual fulfillment. As Dr. Rose explains, “. . . with this treatment approach, every individual can restore their dignity with self love and self respect.” The center’s stress-reduction approach includes nutrition, massage therapy, meditation, yoga, and a workout room. The center provides an extended care component of wellness restoration and behavior modification coupled with a transitional housing program to gently but firmly support a resident’s return into their community. In addition, we do exceptionally well with those who have failed in other settings.

During the past three decades, Dr. Rose has expanded her skills, experience and education with a doctorate degree in addiction psychology as well as writing her first book on relapse. “. . . There is no doubt that God was preparing me for the line of work that I do today . . . after completing a ten-year tenure at Betty Ford Center my soul inspired me to design and create a program to help a segment of the population that needed more of a hands-on approach to recovery.” Dr. Rose adds, “. . . Addiction treatment is a process with the physical detoxification of the person being the easiest component to their treatment . . . the challenge comes after the physical detoxification occurs, because this is when denial rears it’s ugly head . . .  The truth is that addiction is a chronic illness that affects the entire family and if left untreated may take one’s life.”

Dr. Rose explains that the center’s goal is “. . . to give an individualized level of care to each individual entering
treatment at Life’s Journey Center. . . help them achieve a level of self love, self respect and an effortless inner
transformation for complete and lasting change.”

People come to Life’s Journey Center from all over the world seeking its special formula for recovery and renewal. They leave with the knowledge and confidence that they are well equipped to proceed with their own life’s journey.
