Started in San Diego in 1979, the Broken Yolk Café brand is known throughout Southern California for its generous portions of freshly made breakfast and lunch selections. This family-operated restaurant, located in both La Quinta and now in Palm Springs, serves home-style, made-from-scratch dishes in the Coachella Valley. Try the “eggs any style” or concoctions like the Sun-Up Breakfast Sandwich with Applewood smoked bacon.
Create your own omelets or choose from a dozen “Omelet Obsessions” including the No Name, made with bacon, avocado, tomato, and mushrooms, topped with sour cream.
Breakfast is served all day long. But if it’s lunch you’re craving, a gamut of South-of-the-border items such as the Fiesta Burrito and Tijuana Street Tacos, plus half-pound Angus burgers including Old Reliable; fresh daily soups, salads, sandwiches, and wraps are available. All menu items start with fresh ingredients. Breads are baked on-site; hash browns are shredded from whole potatoes, salsas and sauces are made from scratch daily. Special requests are welcome, whether they’re glutenfree, high protein, low carbohydrate, or any other dietary restriction.
If you’re feeling adventurous, ask about the 12-egg omelet challenge as seen on TV’s Man v. Food. Broken Yolk’s own Iron Man or Woman challenge is to consume a 12-egg omelet filled with mushrooms, onions, and American cheese smothered with chili, and a big pile of home fries and two biscuits within one hour. Winners go down in history on The Broken Yolk’s Wall of Fame and are awarded a T-shirt. Plus, the meal is free.
