Musical giants have settled into the Coachella Valley this month to perform at Desert Trip last weekend and again this weekend.

Today, major announcements about two of them were made, and we are knocking on heaven’s door with excitement.

The global news, of course, is that today, poet/singer/troubadour Bob Dylan, who will appear at the Empire Polo Club in Indio Friday night, was awarded the 2016 Nobel Prize for literature. If you weren’t surprised, you are in very small company.

Baby, we’re also amazed at the local news this morning that Paul McCartney is warming up for his second Desert Trip concert Saturday with an appearance tonight at Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown. And the setting is even more intimate than normal, as the venue supposedly is keeping the music confined to the indoor part of the popular hang.

Tickets are available only at the box office, starting at 6:30 p.m., cash only, $50, and you may purchase only one per person. You’re not permitted to queue until 3 p.m., and once your tickets are in hand, you must stay on the premises. The concert starts at 8:30 p.m.
