The Latest Trends in Interlocking Paving…Paving the Way Special Advertising Feature By Ellen Paris Charissa Farley is on a mission: to transform the Valley with pavers one driveway at a time. Her passion for interlocking pavers is immediately evident. “Choosing pavers as the hardscape for your driveway, patio, walkway, courtyard, or pool area transforms your home’s exterior,” explains Farley who hosts a weekly home improvement segment on Channel 2’s, Desert Homebuilders and will be joining New Home Television this month. “Pavers used to be thought of as a luxury until we educated builders that the cost is similar to decorative concrete. Recent studies prove if you include the maintenance costs over the life of the pavement, pavers actually cost less than asphalt! (That’s why in Europe you see more pavers than asphalt.) So why wouldn’t you do pavers instead and automatically add lasting value to your home?”
Farley’s strong product knowledge and commitment to growing the country’s interlocking concrete paver industry has gained her the reputation as the “Queen of Pavers.” Though Farley laughs at this, she’s proud of providing education on the aesthetics, practicality, sustainability, and cost effectiveness. “As the cost of asphalt and concrete increases, we are paving more and more streets, parking lots, common areas, and commercial projects — enhancing a development’s character,” says Farley. Whether you’re a homeowner’s association improving your entire community or a homeowner improving your home pavers make sense. “My clients tell me they love the way their pavers look and how it just feels better,” Farley explains. Recent projects include Toscana, Griffin Ranch, and Andalusia. You’ll also find Farley’s pavers at Bella Clancy, Bighorn, The Reserve, The Hideaway, The Tradition, and Brava. In addition, Farley did design work at the grand entrance hardscape at Andalusia, the front entry hardscape at the recently redesigned Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa and the color design for Griffin Ranch. Farley Interlocking Pavingstones, however, is more than just Farley’s passion. It’s a company comprised of a seasoned and knowledgeable team from supervision to project scheduling to estimating, and most importantly, installation. Farley’s crews are highly specialized in interlocking paving, and their installers take great pride in each job which explains why Farley works with most of the valley’s builders — whether they’re national, regional, or local. What are the new paving trends? Today’s architecture is all about wide-open spaces, from the great room to the outdoor living area. “I’m working with more interior designers as pavers run from the front of a home, then meld with the interior flooring, and out to the outdoor living spaces. So the designer is often matching the stone or tile in the interior space to the pavers in the exterior space,” Farley observes. Farley recently introduced stone pavers to the local market from Olympic Stone. These imported travertine, marble, and granite pavers are essentially the same pavements that have been utilized for centuries in Europe. Since they are sandset, there is no need for a concrete base, which drastically lowers costs. Another new product development is the advancement in cleaners and sealers. “As there are many pavements we’ve installed years ago, there is an increased demand to clean routine wear, efflorescence (the white stuff that sometimes appears during the winter), and to protect areas from high traffic,” says Farley. SureBond, a standard in the industry, has recently developed new products that work better and last longer. They can enhance finishes or can be virtually invisible. There are also joint-stabilizing sealers, which can lock-joint sand and protect the paver’s surface. “No product can remove all stains, but I am pleased with how they brighten and protect” Farley says. For very stubborn stains, we remove and replace the pavers.” One thing is certain: With Farley Interlocking Pavingstones, you’ll love your driveway. Charissa Farley wouldn’t have it any other way.
