 "Hula Hoop," bronze, 43” x 33” x 28” by Jane DeDecker |
Special Advertorial Feature A Gallery Fine Art hosts an impressive collection of contemporary paintings, sculpture, glass, functional art furniture and jewelry by emerging, midcareer, and established artists. No detail has been overlooked in the execution of this 2,500-square-foot gallery space located on El Paseo in Palm Desert. Here, the vibrancy of glass sculpture, the fluid expressions of bronze and the diversity of the original paintings are showcased with expertise that derives from two decades serving the desert area. During the 2008 season, owners Lisa Dempton and Claire Joles present new work by two of the gallery’s marquee artists — bronze sculptor Jane DeDecker and painter Edith Bergstrom. JANE DEDECKER Jane DeDecker’s dynamic bronze sculptures are a reflection of her own life experiences and those of her closely knit family. She draws from fond recollections of farm life near Marengo, Iowa, for her life-sized sculptures depicting children at play. DeDecker’s figures are spontaneous and energetic — capturing in a single freeze frame, the essence of childhood innocence. Her ability to capture specific moments that viewers can relate to on a personal level give her work a timeless quality that spans generations. EDITH BERGSTROM Edith Bergstrom is a peer of California’s light and space artists who emerged in the early 1960s. Since 1974, Bergstrom has focused exclusively on the palm tree. She captures the tree’s elemental energy as much as its physical appearance, drawing the viewer into its hidden forces. With her canvases, she reminds us that nature is in fact the greatest art. Bergstrom explores the space between realism and abstraction. Working in watercolor, acrylic and oil, her botanical study of the palm is strengthened by her use of traditional methods of painting. New and seasoned collectors will also appreciate work by recognized painters Anna Carll, Gregory Deane, Hessam, Erica Hopper, Judith Marshall, Patricia Qualls, and Gregg Robinson; sculptors Shirley Ruuska-Brown, Barbara Chen, Craig French, Jeffrey Gluck, Mark Hopkins, John Richen, Bruce Stillman, Joel Urruty, and George Snyder; and glass artists Leon Applebaum, Afro Celotto, Barry Entner, Tom Farbanish, Virginia Gabaldo, Jeff Goodman, Elizabeth Mears, Randy Strong, and Christian Thirion, among others. For more information about featured artists, please visit or call the gallery. The gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and until 9 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month during the El Paseo Art Walk.
