Davood Vafai, M.D. Imitiaz Malik, M.D. Comprehensive Hematology and Oncology Care By Jeff Moriss
Dr. Davood Vafai is passionate about his patients, his work, and his practice. He specializes in providing comprehensive and compassionate cancer care.
Dr. Vafai takes a considerable amount of time getting to know every patient and discusses their clinical problems with them in layman’s terms. He truly believes that the most important part of every patient’s care is the understanding of their underlying disease. This allows his patients to participate in their own care and feel that they are an integral part of their own treatment.
Dr. Vafai and his staff provide cutting-edge and up-to-date cancer and blood disorder treatments. The staff is knowledgeable, and provides compassionate care and understanding to the patients and their families. The nurses are highly trained in the administration of chemotherapy and work closely with the physicians in the assessment, planning, and implementation of care from beginning to the end of a patient’s treatment regimen. Also provided are novel therapies through enrollment in clinical trials.
“We are pleased to offer our patients the opportunity to see a highly specialized oncologist that specializes in Gastro-Intestinal cancers.”
Dr. Imtiaz A. Malik is a professor of medicine at Loma Linda University and is a Board Certified Oncologist and Hematologist.“Our goal is to provide a comprehensive medical care plan which will include both Western-based medicine as well as incorporating proven alternative modalities to complement your present treatment plan,” Dr. Davood Vafai states; in other words, a holistic approach to your care. The approach encompasses the psycho-social and physical aspects that western medicine doesn’t often address. The alternative treatments are necessary and are often overlooked in the care of the patient. They help the patients and their families enhance their coping mechanisms, relax through stress-reduction and healing-touch sessions.
Stress-Reduction classes also known as “Mindful-Meditation” are offered through scheduled appointments through Dr. Vafai’s office. The classes are taught by Dr. Jaime Carlo-Casellas Ph.D., and are offered for patients and caregivers, but are also open to the general public.
Healing Touch is an energy-based approach to relaxation. Healing Touch is a philosophy, a way of caring, and a sacred healing art. This is a non-invasive technique utilizing the hands to clear, energize and balance human and environmental energy fields, thus promoting physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health and healing.
The goal of Healing Touch is to restore balance and harmony to the energy system, which supports life. Healing Touch has been found to greatly complement conventional treatments. Healing Touch is available in our office monthly; please notify Maureen Ross, R.N. at (760) 341-3688 to make an appointment to experience this process.
Dr. Vafai is compassionate in understanding the need for patients and caregivers to have support; therefore, bi-monthly support groups are offered on-site for male, female, and caregiver support groups. Support groups enable the patients and their families to address the psycho-social aspect of the illness. The facilitator for the support-group is certified in pastoral care services and works closely with patients, and their families working through various stages of the patient’s cancer.
Drs. Vafai and Malik provide their patients with comprehensive hematology and oncology care, including chemotherapy, infusion services, growth-factor injections, an anticoagulation clinic, antibiotic therapy, and laboratory studies.
The new offices of Dr. Vafai and Malik are also among the first in the medical industry to adopt an environmentally “green” approach through non-toxic paint, ceiling tiles, low energy lighting, solar panels, water saving devices, and special air purifiers that utilize ultra-violet light, and ionization to kill bacteria, germs, mold spores, and toxic fumes.
