A Week for Masters

For the first time, Tiffany & Co. at The Gardens on El Paseo in Palm Desert will showcase a collection of major works by famed designers with whom the jewelry company has partnered. On view Nov. 19-26, The Style Makers: Masters of Tiffany Design includes designs by Frank Gehry, Elsa Pereti, Paloma Picasso, and Jean Schlumberger.

Now Get A Hold Of This

Master furniture and housewares designer Arthur Tabrizi has created the Stretto wine holder in three models: Bello ($725), made from wood and completed with a Swarovkski crystal; Esotico ($475), using Lamborghini paints; and Raro ($2,500), handcrafted to a customer’s specs and finished with a diamond solitaire. Raro customers may visit the Las Vegas atelier, choose the wood, and enjoy a glass of wine while watching the cutting of the wood.

Life As An Icon

William Cody’s Del Marcos Hotel in Palm Springs was used as a location in this summer’s critically acclaimed La Vie en Rose, a film about the life of Edith Piaf. Los Angeles producer Adele Amos has returned several times since enjoying the inn’s Rat Pack Room in May 2006. The French film crew, she reports, also particularly enjoyed the Palm Springs portion of the shoot. While staying here, they traveled to the High Desert to film a car crash scene.

A Look Back

When George Gershwin wrote the lyrics “Liza, Liza, skies are gray, but if you'll smile on me, all the clouds’ll roll away,” in 1929, little could he have known how appropriate it would be for the young Judy Garland to sing them to daughter Liza Minnelli some 17 years later.
