Since 2006, the runway at Fashion Week El Paseo has featured more than 3,500 looks from diversified designers.

If you consider how many trends we have seen, you might wonder what could possibly be new for Spring 2014.

To answer the call, we have curated a team of talented designers with their latest collections ready to showcase the newest and the best.

Here’s a list of some of the latest trends to be on the lookout for as you join our devoted fashion lovers during Fashion Week El Paseo 2014.

Warning: These two trends seem contradictory…but that’s what makes fashion fun. Try them both!

Gender Blenders

Look for “his and hers”…all in one look. Think about that tulle skirt or tutu with a biker jacket or tuxedo jacket.

Tulle is here to stay and this is a new way to mix it up. If the tutu isn’t your preferred skirt or bottom of choice, find a wonderful chiffon skirt and mix it with a tailored jacket.

Please be sure to look in the mirror before heading out and check your proportions…soft on bottom and a little more tailored on the top. This year’s Designer of the Week, Zang Toi, is a master of tulle (see photo at right).

It’s a season to try a mix of tweeds and plaids with lace.

Menswear with sequins creates a jolting look when worn together. That tuxedo jacket is certainly becoming a staple of our wardrobes, but add a sequin corset or T-shirt and you’ve got the look for today. And if you want to wear flat tie oxfords with the look, change the shoelaces to satin ribbons that tie in a pretty bow.

Last year’s featured designer, Katherine Polk for Houghton, showed a delicious white lace tuxedo on the runway. Now we can mix those pieces with more tailored items from our wardrobe.

And finally, why not take a tailored men’s coat and throw it over your shoulders with a cocktail dress? Remember to keep the fabrics complimentary and add an evening pin on the lapel of that coat to make it “yours”.

Feminine, Genteel and Polished Looks

The great news is for almost all women: The sleeve is back!! Watch for dresses with three-quarters, short, and long sleeves. This is just a part of the lady-like look that will please anyone over 30.

Coats, capes, and high necks in beautiful refined fabrics finish the look. Silhouettes are softer and looser, but not at all baggy.
