Style & Beauty Bash: Pretty on El Paseo

Hundreds of attendees came to refresh their look for spring.

Carolyn Patten Fashion Week El Paseo

On Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., stylish attendees of all ages flocked to the Toscana Country Club Runway Tent for Fashion Week El Paseo Palm Desert’s 2014 Style and Beauty Bash. It was an atmosphere of fun: black-clad beauty mavens from some of the Coachella Valley’s top salons wielded curling irons and blush brushes while attendees enjoyed being pampered, primped, and fluffed by the desert’s beauty and wellness experts. For a $30 donation, attendees could receive a haircut or style, makeup application, brow shaping, spray tan, shave (for men), or massage, with the proceeds being donated to local charities.

As the loudspeakers pumped soft rock, an ongoing Extreme Hair and Makeup Showcase on raised stages made for an electric atmosphere, leading to the runway show by designers whose clothing and accessories were available in the Fashion Frenzy pop-up stores in the tent next door.

First on the runway were the extreme hair and makeup creations from Raphael’s Salon & Spa, whose model strutted out in a Hannibal Lecter-style mask and soaring Medusa curls. Not to be outdone, Wink Lash & Beauty Bar and Just Blow Drys sent out their model wearing an updo crowned with a massive red rose fashioned from human hair.

Bright citrus, hot pink, turquoise, and lots of embellishment filled the runway. Standout pieces included swimwear with floaty, crocheted cover-ups from Diane’s Beachwear, Free People’s ethereal iridescent white sundress from She She Clothing Boutique, and a python print, silver lame tank dress and jacket from Grayse.

The timing of the event couldn’t be better, as hundreds of lucky attendees left with a new outlook (and look) for spring.
