Mother’s Day can still conjure the image of kids serving breakfast in bed to Mom.

But only for a few minutes.

How about a reality check.

Now it doesn’t matter whether you want to take Mom out for brunch or dinner, restaurants in Palm Springs and the surrounding desert towns are at your service.

Here is a list of 10 places to consider. They are presented in no particular order. Share your suggestions with us by leaving a comment at the bottom of the story.

•    How about a 2-for-1? Sister restaurants Lulu California in Palm Springs and Acqua Pazza in Rancho Mirage both offer a fun ambiance with delectable food from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Besides endless champagne and mimosas, the two locations offer nine appetizers each, 14 entrees and eight desserts for $24.99 per person (children under 12 eat for $12.99).

•    Trio in Palm Springs has put together a three-course prix fixe menu to be served from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for $19 per person. An extended Happy Hour will give Mom more time to enjoy $3 well and wine drinks, $5 martinis, margaritas and mojitos. And each Mom received an orange Trio lily.

•    Fantasy Springs Resort & Spa offers either brunch or dinner. Brunch runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fresh Grill Buffet with a choice of omelets, blintzes, carvery meats like leg of spring lamb and Virginia ham, plus n array of Asian, Italian and Latin specialties. Dinner is also available starting at 5 p.m. at POM for the more casual experience, or at the Bistro for that fine dining ambiance.

•    Figue, the latest addition to the eatery scene in La Quinta, offers a three-course lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. or a Mother’s Day dinner from 3-8 p.m. Highlights of the three-course menu include Kibbé with Lebanese spice lamb and Bulgar wheat meatballs, chicken tagine and Marcona Chocolate Bombe.

•    Spotlight 29 Casino offers a couple of choices – the casual buffet style eating experience of Café Capitata featuring American comfort food, fresh salads and international selections. Or dinner at the JEM Steakhouse with a four-course meal served from 4-9 p.m. includes seafood starters like Fanny Bay oysters, entrée selections like Cajun style Wild Salmon and sweet endings like Tres Leches Ice Cream cake.

•    Come dressed for the occasion and receive a complimentary glass of sparkling wine or a mimosa with a paid brunch at The Viceroy in Palm Springs. The brunch buffet has selections ranging from organic omelets to smoked salmon to prime rib.

•    Miramonte Resort & Spa promises a lavish brunch from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. complete with a free red rose and $25 gift card for the Well Spa for Mom. Active duty military Moms will be given a free brunch.

•    Take a drive to Temecula at the Wilson Creek Winery from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Let Dad take the kids to the petting zoo to give Mom some alone time.

•    At Vicky’s of Santa Fe, start with jazz music from 2-5 p.m. followed by dinner available from 5:30-10 p.m. Special for $22.95 is Grilled Teriyaki Salmon with Shitak mushrooms and steamed broccoli over a bed of rice dinner.

•    What about a ride up the Palm Springs Aerial Tram, lunch or dinner, a hike, pick up an item at the gift shop and ride back? Talk about a complete day. The tram’s Pines Café will serve the Mother’s Day Ride ‘n’ Dine from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. There is a children’s menu, and adults can feast on dry aged meats and poultry along with fresh breads, fresh seafood and pastas.
