21st annual Features New, Familiar Faces
American Idol alum Casey Abrams is back, while Idyllwild Arts grad Evan Christopher and David Garfield are making their first appearances at Jazz in the Pines, Aug. 16-17. Check out our profiles of Christopher and Garfield.

Polo Polo
His first appearance in the United States was 1988, and now Polo Polo (pictured at left) is well known in comedian circles for his practical jokes, and he has appeared in several Mexican movies. See him Aug. 16 at Spotlight 29 Casino in Coachella.

Copper Mountain College Raises Funds for Nursing Program
The latest jobs report noted the overwhelming number of unfilled healthcare jobs, so building a workforce to fill them makes all kinds of sense. The college's annual fundraiser banquet and silent auction happens Aug. 15.

Summer Extravaganza
Musical talent includes Apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas (pictured at right), DJ Apek, Julianne Manalo of the X-Factor and boy band Above Seclusion Aug. 16 at the Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa in Rancho Mirage. Around the music is a benefit swimsuit fashion show, concert and car raffle.

Not Woodstock, but Woodsist
Not to be confused with that small gathering in upstate New York, Woodsist brings a cross-section of artists, including Foxygen, from its record label to play Aug. 16 at Pappy & Harriet's in Pioneertown. Check out the lineup.

American Idol Tour
Season 13 finalists perform Aug. 16 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, including winner Caleb Johnson, runner-up Jena Irene, C.J. Harris, Jessica Meuse, MK Nobilette, Alex Preston, Dexter Roberts, Majesty Rose, Malaya Watson and Sam Woolf.

"Top Rock" Dares You to Sing Along
The songs you still remember the words to is exactly what you'll hear when you go see "Top Rock" at the Hard Rock Hotel Palm Springs, running Friday and Saturday nights through September. The interactive musical tribute show really spans six decades of music, but most of it is from the 1980s and '90s. Watch our VIDEO from opening night.

Ron Cohn: "Live & Let Live"
What better way for Cohn to celebrate his birthday than by performing familiar tunes from Cole Porter Aug. 17 at the Arthur Newman Theater at the Joslyn Center in Palm Desert.
