Every day is a little like Christmas for Bianca Rae.

The weekend anchor and entertainment reporter for CBS Local 2 was actually carried home from the hospital in a Christmas stocking 25 years ago. A few months before graduating from the University of Missouri, Rae went to a journalism convention in Las Vegas.

“They liked my reel and flew me out for an interview,” says Rae, who had always wanted to work in entertainment journalism. “Southern California is in the heart of it all. Co-hosting the red carpet at the Palm Springs International Film Festival was a dream and the highlight of my career so far.”

Rae loves the desert, noting that is doesn’t feel like a small town and a small market with so many incredible events and opportunities. The Palm Desert resident has another passion besides entertainment, and it comes down to helping others — specifically, “furry” others.

“Two years ago, I adopted Jack, a spaniel/dachsie mix,” says Rae. “I’ve always said it may be impossible to make the world a perfect place, but it’s truly so easy to make it a better place.”

Rae started the Bianca Rae Foundation with the goal of helping to create a no-kill Coachella Valley for animals.

“My goal is to make the Coachella Valley even a little better than how I found it, erasing the stigma that shelter animals are all scary, aggressive, and mean," she says. "They make the best pets. Look at Jack.”
