Chief Development Officer, Desert AIDS Project
Age: 37

Darrell Tucci has been in the desert for less than two years, but he knows he is here to stay.

The chief development officer for Desert AIDS Project loves the local social scene that is driven to support nonprofits.

“I have a real passion about helping people realize the change they wish to see in the world through their giving,” Tucci says. “Development for nonprofits brings my passion and their passion together. The mission [of Desert AIDS Project] is very close to my heart. I lost my grandfather and childhood best friend to AIDS.”

Since then, Tucci came out at 19 and has been a part of the HIV/AIDS and lesbian and gay rights movements locally and nationally.

He served on the board of Buddies of New Jersey in his home state for several years; serves on the National Leadership Council of the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network; and is on the national board of Bolder Giving.

Locally, he is a co-chair of the Palm Springs Equality Awards, where he looks forward to seeing community members come out and show their support.
