Rebecca Brown relocated to the desert from Louisiana 15 years ago and discovered her career path was not to have Broadway stardom after all.
Going instead into nonprofit and marketing-related work, Brown was with FG Creative before accepting her current position as the marketing and public relations manager for The Living Desert.
“I never thought I would be working at a zoo,” Brown says. “You just never know. I am blessed to have a job I love so much.”
Brown confesses her favorite animal changes almost daily.
“Right now, it is the warthog,” she says, laughing. “I have to know a little bit about everything at the zoo to do my job — it is all so rewarding.”
Brown met her husband in the valley and married nine years ago. The two have an adopted son who is now 14 years old.
“I worked with Olive Crest for several years, and we adopted our son through them,” says Brown, who also sits on the board of Green Acres, an organization that teaches children about sustainability.
Although Brown never made it to Broadway, she does admit to “hamming it up” with karaoke every once in a while.
