Discover a fashion gem tucked away in downtown Palm Springs’ Palm Canyon Galleria. Patrons of this retail jewel describe it as a ’60s boudoir. Offering vintage clothing and accessories from the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s sourced by owner Amy Cox, the store features an assortment of goods for men and women. Mr. Cox is named for Amy’s father, who taught his daughter early on how to find and appreciate fun, interesting treasures found at secondhand stores. MacMillan’s Resort Wear
A dazzling assortment of resort-styled clothing beckons at this longtime retail staple in Palm Springs. Owner Arthur MacMillan started his business in 1994 after moving to the desert and “needing a job.” He had no idea what he was getting into, he says. MacMillan started with women’s resort clothing, concentrating on famous floral prints associated with Hawaii. He added menswear after realizing that the desert was ideally suited for his style of clothing. Although his vast collection of Hawaiian shirts and blouses are his stock in trade, he also offers a wide selection of dresses, pants, shorts, and bathing suits — most of which are available from extra small to plus sizes. MacMillan’s customers range from visiting hipsters who love the Hawaiian flair to locals who wouldn’t think of tucking in a shirt.
