Express Your Mod! — Feb. 16-26

One of the desert’s most popular events, Modernism Week is a 10-day celebration of cool from Feb. 16 to 26. Modernism reflects a popular design aesthetic originating in the 1950s and ’60s characterized by clean lines and elegant simplicity that redefined forms of art, architecture, and design. Held in various venues throughout the city, the week offers more than 75 entertaining and educational events, including the Modernism Show, tours, films, lectures, swank parties, art exhibitions, music, food, and more. A World of Art in Palm Springs — Feb. 17-19

Fifty galleries will exhibit about $200 million worth of art at the inaugural Palm Springs Fine Art Fair, Feb. 17-19 at Palm Springs Convention Center. The openingnight event (Feb. 16) benefits Palm Springs Art Museum and honors artist Judy Chicago. Palm Springs Life offers an opportunity to meet actor/art collector Cheech Marin at the magazine’s party in the fair’s VIP Lounge on Feb. 17. Other programs include The Big Picture: Paintings from Southern California, 1960-1980, an exhibition in conjunction with the Getty initiative Pacific Standard Time.
