Hyatt Regency moved stylishly into the 21st century with not only the first phase of renovation complete, but a new name for its Indian Wells resort.

Entering a long phase of renovation in 2008 as the Hyatt Grand Champions, the 45-acre resort emerged in 2012 as the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort and Spa.

"The original property name…was based upon the celebrated tennis tournament that occurred on the resort grounds for several years," a spokeswoman said. "As the tournament evolved, the location changed to accommodate a larger event."

The Newsweek Champions Cup now ranks as the sixth largest tournament in the world, according to statistics provided by Hyatt.

"Our Palm Springs tennis club resort has hosted such members of the tennis elite including Pete Sampras, Steffi Graf, Andre Agassi and many others.  Although our stadium is now gone, our new facility rests on the same hallowed ground where the stars made history."

The name change only begins the transformation that started at the resort.

Inside the lobby, Hyatt created Citrus Marketplace and Cafe, which will offer a selection of specialty deli items for guests on-the-go.

"(It was) named for the citrus trees that line the property.  Signature Citrus food and beverage items include fresh grapefruit, oranges and lemons grown right on the resort grounds," a spokeswoman said.

Citrus will also offer a full service coffee bar, teas, sandwiches and treats, including gourmet chocolate made by the resort’s pastry chef.

Designers redesigned the resort’s contemporary lobby and also reimagined and renamed Lantana Restaurant and lobby bar Agave Sunset.

For guests' comfort, they also expanded the resort's private villas and the transformed the 26 luxury penthouse suites.
