Did you ever wonder why the official name is Mother’s Day?

Rather than Mothers’ Day?

The holiday’s founder, Anna Jarvis, wanted to honor each individual mother and not as a group.

And what better way than enjoying a meal out, taking the chore of meal preparation and cleanup out of the equation for Mom.

There are  many choices, so here is a selection in no particular order.

Figue Mediterranean, La Quinta: Offers a three-course brunch menu with seatings from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dinner service for Mom from its regular menu start s at 5:30 p.m.

Colony Palms Hotel, Palm Springs: The Purple Palm brunch menu is three courses with Grilled Sirloin of Beef, California Eggs Benedict and Roasted Lemon-Thyme Chicken Breast among the entree choices.

Circa 59 at Riviera Palm Springs: The menu features both hot and cold attractions from a Smoked Salmon Display to Grilled Asparagus, plus a chef's selection of sweet treats.

Miramonte Resort & Spa, Indian Wells: Mom's receives a rose and a special gift upon arrival at the brunch, which is served from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Plus she will leave with a $25 spa gift card. Active duty military families will be honored with a free brunch for mom with the pruchase of a regularly-priced brunch and a military ID.

Catalan Restaurant, Rancho Mirage: There will be half-priced bottles of wine and an indulging gift for mom. Specials include Crispy Soft Shell Crabs and Peppered Lamb Carpaccio.

VUE Grille and Bar, Indian Wells: Serving from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., VUE has traditional breakfast offerings like French Toast, but also a carving station, chilled selections like shrimp and salads, and a dessert display with live entertainment.

Trio, Palm Springs: Open at 10 a.m. and servcing Brunch a Go-Go until 3 p.m. with a new menu and $19 prix fixe items. They also serve their three-course $19 prix fixe menu from 11 a.m.m to 6 p.m.

Melvyn's Restaurant, Palm Springs: This Champagne Brunch from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. has a chouce of more athn a dozen entrees and a special gift for mom.

Le Valluris, Palm Springs: Reservations are open starting at 10:45 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. Choose from these main courses – grilled swodfish, smoke salmon and scrambles egg, grilled duck breast, and roasted stuffed quail.

Mastro's Steakhouse, Palm Desert: Serving from 3-10 p.m. with a lineup of steaks amd chops, sushi, and seafood.

Lulu California Bistro: From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., menu choices include South of the Border Gazpacho, Santa Fe Panini, Seafood Benedict, and Flourless Triple Chocolate Cake.

Desert Willow Golf Resort, Palm Desert: Reservations are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with gourmet food stations, complimentary champagne and picturesque views.

Bellatrix Restaurant & Wine Bar, Palm Desert: Brunch includes breakfast fare, carving startion, entree station, seafood, and kids station serving from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
